Biography
Robert Dubac draws on decades of showbiz experience as a writer, actor and stand-up comic to create one-man shows that explore political ideas, social mores and the complexity of the human experience with unparalleled wit and humor. Shifting effortlessly from one hilarious character to the next, he takes every audience on a journey into his mindscape, letting them ride his train of thought through a route that is somehow both circuitous and direct.
His most recent production, Free Range Thinking searches for truth in a world that runs on spin and hype. His earlier outings in the solo-performance theatrical arena; Sex, Politics… and Other Headaches and The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron? brought Mr. Dubac critical acclaim and respect as a force to be reckoned with in the genre. The Male Intellect – his hysterical tour de force that tackles the babble of the sexes – has become a worldwide phenomenon, having been translated into dozens of languages and performed in just as many countries.
He continues to draw audiences to all three shows, having become a traveling one-man repertory company, the texts and the material as fresh and insightful as they were on their opening nights.
In addition to his extensive and ongoing artistic endeavors, Dubac found significant success in the mainstream entertainment industry. He appeared in many feature films including After the Game, Cold Ground, Sketch Artist, Stitches, Innocent Obsession and The Rookie. His TV credits range from comedic turns in sit-coms like Growing Pains and Diff’rent Strokes to drama, with appearances on programs such as Life Goes On and Jack and Mike. He even worked in the melodramatic style of ABC’s soap opera, Loving.
Earlier in his career Mr. Dubac worked as a stand-up comic, a magician and the opening act to royalty of the music world. He toured with Kenny Loggins, Linda Rondstadt and Jimmy Buffet to name just a few. He was also chosen to study with a select group of actors under the personal tutelage of the late great Sanford Meisner.
Working behind the scenes, Dubac directed the Off-Broadway production of Man 1, Bank 0, created and directed the premiere performance of ¡Satiristas! the monthly comedic installment in the Axis Mundi series at The Actors Gang in LA and produced and created the Barbarians of Truth an edgy and satirical comedy show for both theatrical houses and foul-smelling dive clubs.
He released a DVD of The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron? which can be purchased on amazon.com. However, for some reason Amazon calls it Inside the Male Intellect. Don’t let that stop you from ordering it. It’s the same hilarious show famous for bringing couples together everywhere with non-stop laughter, precision and wit.
In addition to his touring schedule (available on his website at http://www.robertdubac.com, Robert stays up late at night working on the script for his next solo show, Stand-Up Jesus, an irreverent look at reverence. He is also hard at work on a DVD of Free Range Thinking as well as an audio CD titled Piss and Moan that will include favorite segments from all of his shows.
Since he was fourteen, Robert Dubac has been on stage entertaining strangers.
